Edward Markey (D-MA) wants to know the role the country’s biggest cell phone service providers play in helping local police departments conduct surveillance and track suspects during investigations. In a letter to eight carriers, Markey asks them to explain the process of providing the information to law enforcement and to provide the number of times information was requested.

►More than 6,000 pages of documents seized during the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound one year ago will be made available to the public today on the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point Web site. The documents will be released in Arabic and English. The documents were found on the five computers, dozens of hard drives and more than 100 storage devices found during the raid, CNN reports.

►By the end of this summer, 23,000 U.S. troops will withdraw from Afghanistan.  And by 2014, security will be transferred completely to the Afghan government, President Barack Obama said in an address Tuesday night from Kabul. DHS Announces Rick Rescorla National Award for Resilience

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on Friday announced the creation of the Rick Rescorla National Award for Resilience, in memory of Richard "Rick" Rescorla. During the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Rescorla led the evacuation of Morgan Stanley’s 2,700-person workforce in the World Trade Center, saving the lives of many of his coworkers.
